Introduction
to driving in Moscow
|
-
An
owner of two passenger vans! One is a 6 or 7 passenger VW, and another
is a Ford Transporter, with 10-12 seats.
- 18 years of driving experience
- Fast yet smooth driving style
- Excellent knowledge of Moscow
- Long trips, bad road no problem
- Always sober, even during major holidays
Julia is an engineer (bridge design) who switched to business consulting
and psychological training. Two books, several articles, presently working
on her Ph.D. dissertation. Something to do with Jung, personal growth and
other New Age toys I don't want to even think of trying to understand.
She works and home and her schedule is quite flexible. She also does not
seem to have any difficulty staying awake or even driving in the middle of
the night, and can go for 24 hours without any need for stimulants. Her
large family is almost self-organized and thus having Julia take you for 1-2
day trips is no problem. Sleeping bags, tents and other camping gear is
available. Speaking of family matters, talk to her if you have kids who need
to be looked after.
At the time of writing this I don't know how well she can communicate in
English but if yes she can be your gateway to Moscow and the rest of Russia.
If she does not, I will be happy to facilitate your contact with her. As an
active member of the Anastasia
movement she knows the rural scene, especially of the
Kaluga region. One of her project
is connecting small rural
hospitality and eco-tourism establishments into one large network (I
think her site does have an English summary). She is an "in" person in the
psychological/psychoanalysis circles of Moscow. One of her daughters is
making a name for herself in the fashion industry, and her father is a
geologist with about 20 books bearing his name. If you interest in Russia is
serious and long-term, I do recommend making contact with Julia. Getting her
to meet you at the airport is an easy way to do so while making a
contribution to the upkeep of her two vans.
Julia's second van is slower but bigger and warmer.
You can live in in it. Suitable for long-distance travel.
Takes 12??? passengers?
